Kids’ Painting Parties!

At Mai Tais and Monet, we don’t just host painting parties for grown ups, but we also do kids’ parties.  Below are a few ideas from one of our artists, Monica, for the Virginia Beach and Hampton Roads areas. Kids paint for $25 each, host’s kid is free, and each child paints on a 11 x 14 canvas.  If you have your own painting ideas, please let us know!

In addition, we also help Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts earn an art badge, so if you’re a troop leader, don’t hesitate to contact us about pricing.  We will come to you and bring all of the necessary supplies.  Please contact Kelly at kelly@maitaisandmonet.com to schedule your own kids’ party for Virginia Beach or Donna at donna@maitaisandmonet.com for Hawaii.

Larchmont School Carnival

Today, Mai Tais and Monet had the pleasure of painting with kids at the Larchmont School Carnival in Norfolk.  Over 200 kids painted and kept us very busy. Each artist received a 9×12 canvas board, paints, and brushes to paint a masterpiece with all proceeds going to the school.

These kids have a great deal of talent and surprised us with their creativity–from toddlers who took their easels off the table and onto the grass to teenagers who painted under the shade of the live oaks, easel-free.  Thank you to all who came out and painted with us and supported Larchmont School in the 100th Anniversary Carnival!    IMG_0723 IMG_0724 IMG_0730 IMG_0733

Sakura Spring

Cherry blossoms only bloom for a short time in spring and are near full bloom in Washington D.C. this weekend.  Sakura, as they’re known in Japan, carry special relevance to people since the blossoms symbolize the brevity of life:  cherry blossoms are also most beautiful when most of the flowers have bloomed with petals falling to the ground after two short weeks.  Many people write haiku, a Japanese poem that follows the 5-7-5 syllable per line pattern, to glorify nature.

Besides writing haiku, sakura make excellent flowers to paint.  Here are a few paintings:
