Sakura Spring

Cherry blossoms only bloom for a short time in spring and are near full bloom in Washington D.C. this weekend.  Sakura, as they’re known in Japan, carry special relevance to people since the blossoms symbolize the brevity of life:  cherry blossoms are also most beautiful when most of the flowers have bloomed with petals falling to the ground after two short weeks.  Many people write haiku, a Japanese poem that follows the 5-7-5 syllable per line pattern, to glorify nature.

Sakura blooming:

petals fall on wet pavement–

pink snow in spring time.

Besides writing haiku, sakura make excellent flowers to paint.  Here are a few paintings:
